Issue 18: Pros and Cons List - A Timeless Classic
"The risk of a wrong decision is preferable to the terror of indecision."
-Maimonides
Welcome to our our eighteenth edition!
Today, we revisit the classic decision-making tool: the Pros and Cons List. While simple, it is one of the most effective frameworks for quickly assessing the benefits and drawbacks of a decision. Sometimes, the simple solution is the best!
Grab your notebook and a pen and let's go!
5-MINUTE STRATEGY
Draw a line down the middle of a piece of paper to create two columns. Label one "Pros" and the other "Cons."
Think of the decision you're facing and list all the positive outcomes or benefits in the Pros column.
In the Cons column, list all the negative outcomes or drawbacks.
Review both lists. Be sure to consider the weight and impact of each pro and con, not just the number of items listed.
Make your decision based on which list aligns more closely with your values, goals, and the outcomes you're willing to accept.
Why this matters: The Pros and Cons list helps clarify your thoughts and priorities by quickly mapping out the possible positive and negative outcomes of a decision. It’s a straightforward way to weigh your options and make more informed choices.
